Reminiscence I & II

Single channel audio installation x 2
2013

In the summer of 2013 my collaborator Bathsheba Okwenje and I were awarded fellowships to carry out a research based art project about gender complexities in India. We wanted to say something after a horrific assault and rape case took place in New Delhi, India.

Our project brought attention to the gender biases and soft violence that occurs within an upper middle class culture in the context of New Delhi. To make sense of this violence act we questioned its distance from our own realities. The audio testimonies of women and men reveal the complexities that contribute to the construction of gender and shed light on the systemic nature of gender based violence.
